Such a great game, was hoping the community would grow to US size. If it took off in the states, how come it never did in Australia? Not enough marketing? just too bad.

Keeping the Altitude community alive. http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/177/keeping-the-altitude-community-alive. Wed, 02 May 2012 02:29:08 -0400 Shags 177@/index.php?p=/discussions So, I've created a page on gamersportal to make it easier to see what everyone is playing and to keep in touch.

I had the most fun in a long while playing Altitude and that was because of everyone else who played it. Now that the fixation of that game is waning. With a whole lot of awesome new game were released and soon to be released, this is a nice little page to try and keep that community alive.

I hope people give the site a chance and jump in the group. You can set up your profile to be as private or open as wanted, and it looks to try and set itself up as a social gaming hub. If not hope to see you in game (whichever game that is) soon.

So long and thanks for all the fish? http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/174/so-long-and-thanks-for-all-the-fishs Wed, 29 Feb 2012 05:18:48 -0500 Eradicator 174@/index.php?p=/discussions Can't say I've been in the game much recently. But judging by the lack of forum/steam activity in this game I'm thinking everyone has moved on from this great game.

STO, SWTOR and a F1 2011 comp are taking up much of my time now and with ME:3 around the corner I doubt I'll have much time to think about Alti.

I'll log in occasionally to see if anyone's about, but I'm thinking this might be the end of AusLeague. If so, I'd like to thank each and every one of you whom I played with. Much fun and many lulz were had and with >1260 hrs according to steam of game time by me it's by far my most played title of all time.

Alti, fun and simple yet hard to master, the way a game should be. And with a great community it makes it all that much greater.

Cheers guys/gals. Hopefully I'll see you in the great Alti sky at some stage in my Biplane :)

EDIT: And for the record. My final(?) alti stats Positive KDR all over :P

Altitude Game Update: 8th Feb 2012 http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/172/altitude-game-update-8th-feb-2012 Thu, 09 Feb 2012 04:28:26 -0500 ashrat 172@/index.php?p=/discussions Forum Link: http://altitudegame.com/forums/showthread.php?p=157130#post157130

Some highlights, well most of the forum post:

*New official map: ball_skylands (thanks Nikon)

*New official map: ball_reef (thanks Nikon)

*Rubberized Hull (and Bouncy Walls) - extra damage from explodet reduced from 10% to 7%

*Miranda (All Forms) - teleport damage area of effect length decreased by about 5% (no longer extends significantly beyond tail and head of jump points), width decreased by 3%

*Miranda (Laser) - increased duration by 10% (same total damage over longer time)

*Miranda (Time Anchor) - (TBD mode only) - when carrying the big bomb the time anchor's maximum length decreases by 42% over 7 seconds

*Bomber (Bombs) - increased splash radius by 2%, increased percentage of damage dealt as splash (direct reduced from 30 to 20, splash increased from 60 to 70), reduced self-damage from splash by 25%

*"Free" bomb icons (indicating bombs that are falling freely after its carrier has died) now render with black borders

*"Neutral" bombs now render with a neutral color instead of the active player's color (Yellow, Orange, or Pink -- depending on active team colors)

*Experience gained this round (from kills and assists) is now used as the tiebreaker for all awards (e.g. if several players score exactly 50 kills, the "most deadly" award goes to the player who scored higher value kills and earned more assists)

*Scoreboard: color blind mode [forces colors to Red vs Blue] now shows original team names on scoreboard instead of Left vs Right, e.g. *Green vs *Yellow

*Scoreboard: muted players now show a red "m" next to their name (replacing the red *), friended players now show a green "+" next to their name (replacing the green *)

*Fixed a rare bug that caused the Miranda's Time Anchor to warp outside the map bounds resulting in death.

Next season, in my personal opinion, we should start on a randomly decided TBD then have all following maps ball maps, first choice by the losing team and altering there after.

The season between seasons - Red vs Blue http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/163/the-season-between-seasons-red-vs-blue Tue, 22 Nov 2011 06:13:29 -0500 Gruntbuggly 163@/index.php?p=/discussions Ok, so we're in the 'tween season now while we cool our guns over season 2 and prepare for season 3. Big thanks to Bock for running another successful season, it's not easy work.

After season 1, it was recognised that we needed some fresh blood in the teams and that's why I ran State of Origin, which did the job somewhat. I do think that we have enough players still playing now to kick season 3, but what I'd like to solve in this season-tween-seasons is the multiplayer community side of things - getting people onto mumble.

So, this is my proposal - Red vs Blue

How does it work?

  • Once a week on an arbitrary night - say Wednesday at this stage and I'll make a vote for the night - everyone who wants to play moves to the Ausleague server.
  • Two captains for the night are nominated and teams are then sorted by myself (or another willing referee) and those captains to play a prearranged match of any game type (6v6 if we want - also up for negotiation).
  • Mumble is not mandated, but those on mumble get preferential treatment and will be picked first.
  • Once teams are sorted, team players move into 2 different mumble channels (red and blue?) and spectators join whichever they choose.
  • The match then begins and is played to match end.
  • At the end of the first match, players who are spectating are substituted in for those who already had a game, at my and the captains' discretion.
  • Points are announced by players and spectators - I (or another willing referee) will record points.
  • Another 2 matches are played.

Now the idea is about playing together on mumble and outside of normal squad/teams in preparation for perhaps the draft picking for Season 3. I will however propose a scoring system which will end after 3 weeks of this season-tween-seasons (or however long we do it for until Bock is ready to kick off season 3).

Scoring:

  • 1 point for being on mumble whether you play or not
  • 1 point for being on the winning team
  • 2 points for scoring a goal or bombing the base (regardless of the dmg)
  • 2 points for assisting on a goal
  • 3 points for saving a goal <- this will be regulated by spectators
  • 4 points for player of the match for each side (red and blue - determined by spectators)
  • 3 points for the most kills on each team (red and blue)
  • 1 additional point for most kills overall

I will tally points in a separate thread as we go along and once we finish the Red vs Blue season filler, we'll hail the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners with high acclaim/accord.

Feedback, complaints, support welcome.

AusLeague Servers http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/161/ausleague-servers Sun, 13 Nov 2011 22:02:02 -0500 Bockit 161@/index.php?p=/discussions Hey,

I can't keep the ausleague servers running on this VPS I need the resources they take up just idling for other things unfortunately. It's possible that I'll be able to bring them up again later but for now I'm afraid they have to disappear.

I still plan to keep running the league and this website isn't going anywhere soon, I'm going to try get in contact with Allo or MWD and see if we can use the private LTTD server for league games.

If that doesn't work I'm sure I can sort something out, just don't get surprised when Ausleague #1 and #2 disappear off the server list.

On that note, I'm moving this website onto a different host tonight, so sometime after midnight this website will go offline for the first half of tomorrow. Apologies for the inconvenience and @gruntbuggly for the timing.

Finals: [PASS] vs nomad. http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/152/finals-pass-vs-nomad. Sun, 09 Oct 2011 11:44:05 -0400 Bockit 152@/index.php?p=/discussions We have a winner of the season ladder, but we still have the finals to determine the overall champions for the season.

The game is [PASS] vs nomad. and will follow the standard format and rules, starting on ball_core. It's still a best of 5, but if one team makes 3 there is no need to continue.

Everyone is welcome to spectate, and I recommend the mumble server for spectator chat.

At this point I'd like to thank everyone involved for playing this season, and specifically Gruntbuggly, Ashrat, Art Vandelay and TheDiv for organising their teams. I know from experience how frustrating it is to organise games. Making sure you have numbers, working out when people are free, dealing with no-shows. Without someone doing that the league would never have happened.

I look forward to the game, let's use this thread to work out when we can play it.

Fell out of a window in Brazil [updated - new videos] http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/149/fell-out-of-a-window-in-brazil-updated-new-videos Wed, 05 Oct 2011 08:56:15 -0400 BaconSandwich 149@/index.php?p=/discussions Yo What's up? Thought I'd tell you a bit about who I am and what I do. And what the fuck happened to my left hand.

You can thank Art V. for pushing me to do this tonight and keeping me up past my bedtime!!

So basically I turn 25 in November - work as website sales consultant, obviously selling websites! Very fun, rewarding, challenging job and lots of intersting customers! I've been with my gf for nearly 3 years now and we met in Manly at Shoreclub when she came over here on holidays from Brazil. I live in a granny flat on my parent's land (cool parents) and yeah that's about it. I didn't go to Uni, I worked in some pubs and shit in Manly then I was a printer technician, then printer sales guy, then I did 2 years as a cafe manager (wtf?) and now back to selling stuff. No, I don't do cold calls, all enquiries come through google adwords nice and warm.

Anyway so I went to Brazil on holiday with my gf, Carol, in September 2009. We went there mainly on a holiday but to also wait for Carol's visa to be approved which takes about 6 months. So we flew to Rio de Janeiro via NZ, Chile, then to the south of Brazil in Sao Paulo. When we got to Rio, I lived with Carol's lovely Mum and Brother plus the little doggie Robinhu (pronounced Hobinu). Carol and I lived in a suburb which doesn't have tourists and is close to a famous Favela called City of God (or Cidade de Deus in Portuguese).

The three story house had a big fence around it with big shards of glass on top of the concrete walls. There was a huge gate with an intercom. This house was inside a 24/7 security guarded complex.

We traveled around Brazil a bit - down the south to Rio Grange do Sul ('Big river of the south') and finally arrived back to Rio fucking tired and ready to just drink beer, make BBQs and party like it's fuckin' 1999. BUT Carol's next door neighbour and best friend has a beach house down the coast so lets all go there and PARTAY huh? uh.. we're fuckin tired from travelling but ok lets go!

At the beach house, the date was 10.10.10, we drank cheap brazilian beer all day and went to check out the beach which was a fair walk to the actual beach mind you. When we got back we stuffed around and drank some more. During the night, after the party, I sat on the windows ledge of the bedroom on the second floor waiting for Carol to come back from the kitchen. I was very drunk on Skoll obviously.

Anyway, I turned around to look out the window, and I looked up to the moon. I obviously lost my balance like a fucking drunk idiot.

I still remember looking up to the roof of the beach house. I also distinctly remember the sudden feeling of falling. I fell backwards about 1 meter and flailed for something to hold onto. I badly sliced the palm of my left hand on the air conditioner. I then passed out and fell another 3 meters. Luckily I did pass out because it was a big fall backwards. The floor was compacted dirt luckily so not concrete.

When I woke up, I was really calm and relaxed. I didn't have any pain, but knew something went wrong. Then as I looked back up I realised what had happened. I then realised my left hand was damaged as it was bleeding and was hard to move.

I called for help and Carol and her friend with her boyfriend came down to help me out.

The ambulance came and took me away on a stretcher with a neck brace to the emergency room where I stayed there all night getting Xrays, 15 stitches in my left hand palm and then just recovering and monitoring. I was unable to drink water incase I needed surgery so that plus I had to wear the neck brace just in case my neck was broken all night on a wooden table was shithouse to say the least. Meanwhile Carol is freaking out walking around and her friends are in the waiting room. They xrayed every part of me, head to toe to check for damage but only damage was a fucked up left hand and a bruised heel on right foot. Plus my ego took a hit.

In the morning the janitor (!!) put a cast on my hand and showed me the door. I went to the doctors and with the blurry-ass xrays they have they couldn't decypher the mess of bone in my hand so it was a bit fucked up. The x ray machines there were crap.

I paid $5k for a flight to Sydney from Rio and back again... 30 odd hours of airports and shit later I'm in Sydney and off to the hospital after a few hits on the bubble machine. The only thing that got me through the flying was knowing I have some good shit stashed away back home. So I got to the emergency room because I knew the doctors would hate to know that it's been a few weeks since the accident.

The new CT scans showed some messed up shit in my hand. Most of the metacarples in my left hand were broken, fractured or out of place so there was some work to be done. I sold my commodore for $14k to pay for the flight and hospital shit in Brazil because my health insurance which I purchased on the internet for $130 didn't cover south america in the Ts and Cs. Fucking hell. Anyway. Turns out I must have crushed my left hand with my hip. Luckily, the doctors said, I passed out half way through the fall. This apparently is a defence mechanisim so you fall on the ground floppy instead of stiff. If I didn't pass out I would tense up and snap my neck as quickly as a noob crashes in a non bouncy server

Surgery was great, only 7 hours! 5 pins and 2 screws later, and two weeks of recovery (blazin every day) I flew back to Brazil to stay with Carol and be there for xmas, new years and carnivale in Feb. The doctors wanted me to come back to OZ before xmas to remove the pins and screws.. fuck that! I'm staying in brazil not going back and forth again!

So, slowly, three pins grew out of my hand one by one. I eventually pulled them out. Didn't hurt at all because they go through just bone. Xrays soon

That means two pins remaining. Carol's visa is approved!! Back on the flight home to Australia to get this metal shit out of my hand!

Anyway, got back to Australia in March. Long, long waiting list and finally I have the last two pins removed and one of the two screws in September!. Turns out one of my metacarple bones may be close to dead as it was without blood supply for a long time. So I'll have to have that checked out. It may die and just dissolve.

They had to remove one of the two 'permanent' screws inside my hand because of the deadish bone. This caused big problems with my wrist because they had to go through here with cameras and tools to get that bloody screw. Lots of scar tissue formed after this surgery around my wrist so I can't bend it up more than 1 degree, it's like this | so that sucks

I am also unable to make a fist correctly (mainly my ring and little finger but luckily I can still touch type and fly around on Alti so I can work and play.

I am doing physio every few hours - lots of stretches etc for the tendons.

Anyway that's the rundown. Happy to answer questions and I'll post up some more pics later, I've even got some videos.

Bacon

[VCM] Vigilant Civilian Militia http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/12/vcm-vigilant-civilian-militia Sun, 07 Nov 2010 12:48:41 -0500 GCambo 12@/index.php?p=/discussions Hey! so clan recruitment forum hey...Might as well post this to see how the forum works..We are recruiting, just not desperate at the moment but might as well put this up if anyone does want the info.

QUICK HISTORY! http://www.vcm-gaming.com/ VCM (Vigilant Civilian Militia) was started 6 years ago, since then it has become a multi-gaming clan which has played games such as Call of Duty 2, Team Fortress 2, Insurgency, Counterstrike Source and many other games. Since then the community has become somewhat inactive so the [VCM] tag was kept alive by forming a team in Altitude. Because of this experience I believe we are a very organized team. We have been together longer than any other Australian Altitude team so we are very close and work well together. We may not be very competitive but our goal has always been to have fun and we all know when we have to put our serious faces on.

Currently we have 7 members Ashrat, Daleroy, G.Cambo, Johno, Ming, One Winged Angel and Zombie Bill Murray, We are casual which means we understand that you have a life and wont whinge about your other commitments!

We have 3 spots open. Requirements are that you must be a level 1 Ace at least, must have been walled by Ashrat 50+ times (everyone..), and most important of all, you must have a sense of humor!

If your interested post here, email me gvcambo @hotmail.com or ask any of us through steam http://steamcommunity.com/groups/vcmaltitude

Voice Chat http://www.ausleague.com.au/index.php?p=/discussion/138/voice-chat Tue, 20 Sep 2011 23:56:57 -0400 Bockit 138@/index.php?p=/discussions People have thrown around the idea of a public voice chat server a few times and I've held off committing to hosting one until I could upgrade things. Hosting ventrilo myself is out of the question because their free offering only allows 8 (or 10) players to connect at once, and it's effectively impossible to host their paid version so that left Teamspeak or Mumble. I've had experience with mumble before so I went with that. Though I hope this doesn't start a religious war on voice communication clients :)

You can download the mumble client here: Windows, OSX

The server isn't in the public list of servers, so you'll have to add it to your favourites manually. The details are:

  • Address: ausleague.com.au
  • Port: 64738
  • Username: Anything you want

There is no password required.

You'll need to accept the certificate (Auto-generated by the install package, not a purchased SSL cert, hence the warning) and once you're in, register your username by right clicking on it and clicking 'Register'. The reason for registering is I can grant you access to the clan channels once you've registered.

The clan channels are an experiment, I have no idea if people want to use them, they might already have their own voice chat stuff set up it's more a 'well it doesn't hurt to include them' so if they get used them awesome, and if they don't then it's not big deal.

Hope to see some people on there tonight maybe :P

EDIT: Fixed client links.
